NYKOPING, Sweden, March 22 (UPI) -- A Swedish court has sentenced a man to 18 years in prison for the honor killing of his 21-year-old daughter in central Sweden last year.
Subhi Othman was found guilty of premeditated murder for fatally stabbing his daughter 53 times, the Swedish news agency TT reported Tuesday.
Police said Othman gave himself up when police arrived at the scene and found his daughter lying at the bottom of the stairs.
During questioning, Othman told police he saw no other solution since his daughter was leading what he viewed as an "indecent" lifestyle. The young woman and her three-year-old child had moved in with Othman and his wife after going through a divorce.
Authorities said Othman will be expelled from Sweden after serving his sentence.
