Iraq and Iran sign cooperation accords

BAGHDAD, July 6 (UPI) -- Iran and Iraq signed agreements on taxes, culture, technology, communications and medical equipment in Baghdad Wednesday.

Visiting First Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi said, "Iran is ready to share its scientific and technological knowhow with Iraq," as he met with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, the Iranian Students News Agency reported.

Rahimi called for expanding cooperation in many fields, including energy, which Maliki welcomed.

Iraqi Cabinet spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh told the al-Sumaria network border demarcation, violations in Shatt al-Arab river and sewage and water issues also were on the agenda.

The first joint economic conference, attended by representatives of 00 Iranian corporations, took place in Baghdad Wednesday; it is to be followed by one in Tehran next spring.
