NEWMARKET, Ontario, July 5 (UPI) -- Some 7,000 police officers from more than 60 forces from across Canada and the United States paid tribute Tuesday to a Toronto-area officer killed last week.

The funeral procession and ceremony in Newmarket, north of Toronto, was held for Constable Garrett Styles, who was killed June 28 while making a traffic stop on a rural road.

The York Regional Police officer was five days away from his 33rd birthday when a minivan driven by an unlicensed 15-year-old dragged him at high speed into a field and rolled on top of him.

The youth, who can't be identified, was paralyzed from the neck down in the rollover and has since been charged with first-degree murder.

Styles is survived by his wife, Melissa, a civilian employee of the police force, a 2 1/2-year-old daughter and a 10-week-old son.
