Colombia and South Korea sign military pact

BOGOTA, June 1 (UPI) -- South Korea and Colombia signed an agreement that will strengthen military cooperation between the two countries, officials said.

Colombian Deputy Defense Minister Yaneth Giha and South Korean Defense Minister Lee Yong-gul signed a pact that will help improve relations regarding arms modernization, defense and security issues, El Espectador reported.

The military information protection and confidentiality agreement was signed Wednesday in Seoul.

The treaty is a step towards a defense cooperation process introduced by Colombian Defense Minister Rodrigo Rivera's visit to South Korea in December.

The South Korean Defense Ministry plans to send three instructors of Taekwondo to teach Colombian cadets.
