JERUSALEM, May 20 (UPI) -- Israeli opposition leader Tzipi Livni says Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has hurt Israel's relationship with the United States.

Livni criticized Netanyahu, scheduled to meet with U.S. President Barack Obama in Washington Friday, for "harming the relationship" between the U.S. and Israel.

In a Jerusalem Post interview Friday, Livni said, "Netanyahu spoke about consensus. If there is a consensus in Israel, it's that the relationship with the U.S. is essential to Israel, and a prime minister that harms the relationship with the U.S. over something unsubstantial is harming Israel's security and deterrence."

Netanyahu should resign, Livni said. "I am saying this loud and clear."
