Mubarak's condition grim but stable

CAIRO, May 16 (UPI) -- Deposed Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's health is now stable, a health official said Monday.

Assistant Health Minister Adel al-Adawy told the newspaper Al-Masry al-Youm Mubarak, who resigned under pressure Feb. 11, is showing irregular heartbeats, chronic depression and senility. He is refusing to leave his bed.

Al-Adawy said the ousted ruler remains under detention at a hospital in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheik, as he has for more than a month.

Mubarak is accused of corruption, abuse of power and ordering the killing of protesters but has not been formally charged. He was supposed to be moved to Tora prison in Cairo to join his sons and former associates, but his fragile condition has delayed the transfer.
