Mubarak's wife to undergo angioplasty

SHARM EL-SHEIK, Egypt, May 16 (UPI) -- Ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's wife Suzanne was expected to undergo angioplasty after suffering a suspected heart attack, health officials said.

The former first lady, 70, was hospitalized Monday in the intensive care unit at Sharm el-Sheik Hospital, Mohammed Fathallah, head of the hospital, told the official MENA news agency.

She was expected to undergo catheterization for angioplasty -- surgical repair of a blood vessel -- on Monday, he said.

On Friday, Assem al-Gohari head of the Illicit Gains Authority, ordered Suzanne Mubarak to be remanded at the Tora Prison for 15 days pending an investigation on charges of amassing wealth illegally, al-Masry al-Youm reported.

But she was admitted to the hospital, suffering from a suspected heart attack, al-Arabiya reported.

"Suzanne Mubarak suffers health problems in addition to blood pressure and pains at the chest, so she will need specific blood platelets and blood bags during the catheterization," said Adel al-Adawi, an aide to the country's health minister.
