Man indicted in 15 rapes in Sweden

OREBRO, Sweden, March 7 (UPI) -- A man who had already admitted to being the worst serial rapist in Swedish history was indicted Monday, prosecutors said.

Niklas Eliasson, 24, who has confessed to assaulting 15 women over the last five years, was charged by prosecutor Pia Asberg in the central city of Orebro, the Swedish news agency TT reported.

The indictment says Eliasson is charged with rape, attempted rape, assault, robbery and other offenses, The Local, a Swedish newspaper, reported.

Since he was arrested in October, the attacks have ceased.

"A certain calm has fallen over Orebro," police spokesman Torbjorn Carlson said.

Eliasson has said he planned to kill several people before committing suicide, police said. He also told investigators he began stalking people when he was only 13 after his parents' divorce.

He described himself as a loner who became addicted to Internet pornography when he was unable to find a girlfriend.

The attacks in Orebro began in 2005 but accelerated last fall, with three rapes on Oct. 10, two of them within 15 minutes. Eliasson was arrested outside his home the next day.
