JERUSALEM, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- The possibility of increased tension over the stalled peace talks has Israel considering beefed-up border patrols in the West Bank, military officials said.

The chief of Border Police and the Israeli military's Operations Directorate are holding talks ahead of a possible escalation of West Bank violence, The Jerusalem Post reported Tuesday.

The newspaper said it has learned the two sides differ on what will be needed if violence breaks out.

The military said two to three companies of Border Police specially trained in riot control and crowd dispersal would be sufficient but the Border Police recommend the establishment of a larger brigade that could be deployed at designated "hot spots" in Judea and Samaria.

Border Police held a massive West Bank drill in June aimed at preparing security forces for an outbreak of violence.
