Parents say Knox ready to appeal sentence

PERUGIA, Italy, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- A Seattle coed convicted of killing a British exchange student in Italy plans to occupy herself with studying as she appeals her sentence, her parents said.

Amanda Knox and her former boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, were found guilty Friday in Perugia, Italy, of killing Meredith Kercher.

Knox, 22, was devastated by the verdict and the 26-year-sentence, but has resolved to fight on, her parents, Edda Mellas and Kurt Knox, said.

"It made me feel good to see she was ready to charge on and she wanted to get back to studying at school and stuff like that. So we're going to work on getting that prepared for her," Kurt Knox told Seattlepi.com in a story published Tuesday.

Kercher and Knox were roommates in Perugia when Kercher was killed in November 2007 in what prosecutors said was a sex game turned violent.

A third suspect, Rudy Guede, was found guilty in a separate trial. Guede, Knox and Sollecito all said they had no part in the killing.
