The 42-year-old man suspected of a home invasion attack on a New Jersey woman that was recorded by the family's nanny cam committed a similar offense 22 years ago.

Shawn Custis served 10 years in prison for a brutal attack on a woman and her 18-month-old daughter in 1991, The (Newark, N.J.) Star-Ledger reported.

He was convicted of breaking into the family's Delran, N.J., home, attempting to steal jewelry and punching the woman several times in the face before throwing her and her child down a flight of stairs.

The case is eerily similar to the one caught on a Milburn family's nanny cam in which Custis allegedly broke into a home, repeatedly punched and kicked a woman in front of her 3-year-old child, then threw her down a flight of stairs.

Custis pleaded not guilty Tuesday to attempted murder, robbery, burglary and child endangerment during his first appearance in court since he was arrested Friday.

The alleged victim, whose name was not reported, was knocked unconscious when she was tossed down the stairs. When she woke up, she called police and was treated at a hospital for a concussion, bruises, chipped teeth and cuts around her mouth that required stitches.

The 3-year-old and another 18-month-old child, who was asleep upstairs during the attack, were uninjured.
