May 20 (UPI) -- A mass shooting on Chicago's north side Thursday night left two people dead and eight wounded. At least one person was arrested and a weapon was recovered, according to Chicago police. Chicago police said the shooting occurred about 10:40 p.m. close to Chicago Avenue and State Street. The eight wounded were taken to hospitals in serious to critical condition, according to Chicago fire officials.

The shooting happened after a fight near a McDonald's.
Deonna Jackson, 18, an eyewitness, told the Chicago Sun-Times shooting broke out "like crazy."
At least one train was stopped and passengers were evacuated as police searched for a suspect and a gun.
As paramedics treated the wounded, a fight broke out among bystanders.
"It was frightening," witness Yazan Sheyha told Chicago's NBC 5. "Cause you don't know what's going on. I eat by Subway here because it's close to where I live. I go by this street and I go by McDonald's. What if something happens while I'm walking down the street? It's frightening and it's scary. It makes you feel unsafe, to be honest."
Chicago shootings are up 225% in the city's 18th district, which includes the site of Thursday night's shooting, according to the Sun-Times.
