June 4 (UPI) -- Doctors at a hospital in Maine discharged former President George H.W. Bush on Monday, more than a week after he was admitted for treatment of low blood pressure, the Bush family spokesman said. "The president is deeply appreciative both for the terrific care and the many good wishes he has received," Jim McGrath said in a tweet after Bush's release from Southern Maine Health Care hospital.

The 41st president entered the hospital May 27 due to low blood pressure and fatigue.
"The former president is awake and alert, and not in any discomfort," McGrath said at the time of his hospitalization.
It was Bush's second medical episode in two months. Doctors admitted him to the intensive-care unit at Houston Methodist Hospital in April for a blood infection. He stayed for observation for two weeks.
That hospitalization came one day after the funeral for his wife, Barbara Bush. She died April 17 at the age of 92.
In better health after his Houston hospitalization, Bush traveled to the family compound in Maine -- an annual summer tradition.
Bush, the oldest-living former president -- and longest-lived president in U.S. history -- has vascular parkinsonism, a form of Parkinson's disease.
