March 3 (UPI) -- A blizzard and avalanche besieged Squaw Valley, Calif., late this week, killing one and injuring two others.

After getting lost in a blizzard Thursday night around 9 a.m., snowboarder Wenyu Zhang, 42, of Rocklin, Calif., was found dead Friday at Squaw Valley Ski Resort. The search was narrowed through a tracker program used by the resort.

"On behalf of everyone at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, we would like to extend our heartfelt sympathy to the guest's family and friends," resort spokeswoman Liesl Hepburn told the San Francisco Chronicle. "We hold them closely in our thoughts and prayers."

Hours after Zhang was found dead, an avalanche pounded Squaw Valley -- hitting two women and three men. Two were injured, one seriously, and three others were unharmed, a release showed. All reported missing persons have been accounted for and the search has concluded.

"The trigger of the avalanche is unknown at this time, but a full investigation of the incident and its cause will be conducted," the release stated.

During the Sierra Nevada blizzard, the resort saw a record of more than six feet of snowfall in three days.
