Coroner: Vegas gunman died of self-inflicted gunshot wound

Dec. 22 (UPI) -- The cause of death was released for the gunman and all 58 people killed In the Las Vegas shooting attack, the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

The Clark County coroner's office said Thursday all victims died from at least one gunshot wound. Six died from multiple wounds.

Each of the deaths in the Oct. 1 attack was ruled a homicide.

In a separate statement, the coroner's office added that 64-year-old gunman Stephen Paddock died from a gunshot wound to the head from the mouth -- ruling the death a suicide.

"Because of the impact that this incident had on our community, and the attention that this incident received, it became very important for us to ensure that all of the families had the information prior to us releasing it to the public," coroner John Fudenberg said.

Of the 58 people killed, 18 died from wounds to the head, 21 from wounds to the chest, 15 from wounds to the back and three from a wound to the neck. One person died from a gunshot wound to the leg.

The shooting injured more than 500 people. About 22,000 were attending the Radio 91 country music festival when Paddock began shooting from a suite at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino, on the south end of the Las Vegas Strip.

Authorities are still investigating Paddock's motive.
