Dec. 7 (UPI) -- President Donald Trump on Thursday was scheduled to sign a proclamation recognizing National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

The event comes on the 76th anniversary of the day the Japanese attacked the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

The infamous attack killed more than 2,000 Americans, crippled the U.S. Pacific Fleet and effectively pushed the United States into World War II.

Thursday's event will include Pearl Harbor survivors.

Beforehand, Trump tweeted about the solemn anniversary.

"Today, our entire nation pauses to REMEMBER PEARL HARBOR -- and the brave warriors who on that day stood tall and fought for America," he wrote. "God Bless our HEROES who wear the uniform, and God Bless the United States of America."
