Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Doctors at Walter Reed Medical Center treated Sen. John McCain for an Achilles tendon injury related to his cancer treatment, his office said Monday.

The Republican senator from Arizona shared of a picture of himself wearing a walking boot on his right foot following the weekend treatment.

"I can't tell you how much I hate wearing this boot!" he wrote.

"Senator McCain was treated at Walter Reed Medical Center over the weekend for a minor tear in his right Achilles tendon, as well as for other normal and non-life-threatening side effects of cancer therapy," a statement from his office said. "Senator McCain has returned to work in the Senate and will be wearing a walking boot until his injured tendon is fully healed."

Doctors diagnosed McCain with brain cancer in July during a scheduled eye procedure to remove a blood clot. During a September appearance on CNN's State of the Union, he described it as a "very vicious" form of cancer.

"I'm fine," McCain said. "The prognosis is pretty good. Look, this is a very vicious form of cancer that I'm facing, but all the results so far are excellent."

McCain said he didn't want to paint a "rosy picture" of his disease, but he's receiving the "best treatment" available.
