Florida police capture last escaped inmate from Alabama peanut butter caper

Aug. 2 (UPI) -- The Martin County, Fla., Sheriff's Office said 24-year-old Brady Andrew Kilpatrick, the last remaining inmate of a 12-man Alabama jailbreak last weekend, has been captured in South Florida.

Authorities released a video of the collar, in which Kilpatrick identifies himself as he is pinned down during his arrest Tuesday evening in a neighborhood about 20 miles north of West Palm Beach.

"Kilpatrick was the last of a dozen escaped prisoners to be captured, and the only one to make it out of the Walker County, Alabama area," the Martin County Sheriff's Office said in a statement. "His mistake was coming to Martin County. Kilpatrick had no idea that a team of law enforcement was surrounding the community where he was trying to hide out."

Alabama authorities said the escapees in the prison break were aided by peanut butter -- used to obscure a cell's identification to get a new guard to open it.

Kilpatrick was jailed on drug and drug paraphernalia possession charges. Eleven of the 12 escapees, including two accused of attempted murder, were caught within hours of the jailbreak. Some of the other escapees were in jail for crimes including burglary, domestic violence, breaking and entering and drug charges, police said.
