Watch live: Sean Spicer gives daily press briefing

By UPI Staff

April 13 (UPI) -- Press secretary Sean Spicer on Thursday is scheduled to hold a daily press briefing at the White House for the first time since coming under fire for incorrectly saying Adolf Hitler never used chemical weapons on his people.

He is set to answer questions from reporters at 1 p.m.

The last time Spicer spoke to reporters on camera, Tuesday, he condemned Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime for using chemical weapons against civilians.

Hitler "didn't even sink to using chemical weapons," he said.

The Nazi dictator, did, in fact use chemicals -- gas chambers -- to kill millions of Jews in death camps.

On Wednesday, Spicer offered an apology for his "mistake."

"I was obviously trying to make a point about the heinous acts that Assad had made against his own people last week, using chemical weapons and gas. Frankly, I mistakenly made an inappropriate and insensitive reference to the Holocaust, for which there is no comparison," Spicer said. "And for that I apologize. It was a mistake to do that," Spicer said in an interview on CNN.

He'll likely face more questions about the incident Thursday.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump is scheduled to sign legislation and meet with first responders from the collapse of a bridge on Interstate 85 in Atlanta last month.

Trump departs in the afternoon for his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Fla.
