DETROIT, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- Detroit police say they have arrested a man who allegedly shot a police officer Tuesday night after being pulled over on a bicycle.
Wayne State University Police Officer Collin Rose was shot in the head while stopping a man on a bicycle off campus Tuesday night and is currently in recovery, while the man who allegedly shot him has been arrested after an hours-long manhunt.
Rose was investigating car robberies in the Woodbridge Estates area southwest of campus, and there had been a 911 call about a man on a bike causing trouble in the area -- though officers said they are unsure if he'd responded to the 911 call.
Rose pulled over a man on a bicycle and, according to witnesses, while the officer was interacting with the man he was shot. Officers responding to the scene found Rose on the ground, near a bicycle, with at least one serious gunshot wound and his gun missing.
Police arrested DeAngelo Davis around 9:45 p.m. in connection with the shooting after mounting a "massive" manhunt for the shooter.
"It's a very traumatic episode, so right now we're just hoping for the best," said Wayne State University Police Chief Anthony Holt. "The best news we've received so far is that the officer has come out of surgery, he's in recovery, and we just have to wait and see."
