SEATTLE, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- Two people were killed and five people were shot late Tuesday at a homeless encampment in south Seattle, police said.
Police SWAT teams are searching the area for two male suspects as the investigation continues. Seattle police said they think the shooting was 'very targeted' and was a personal dispute between people who knew each other.
"We have no reason to believe anyone else is in danger at this point," police Chief Kathleen O'Toole said. Officers were sent to other homeless encampments to reassure people.
The shooting took place in an area called "The Jungle" about 7:15 p.m., killing one woman. A male victim died later at Harborview Medical Center. One man and two women were in surgery, a hospital spokeswoman said. One man and one woman were in critical condition and another woman was in serious condition.
The victims are between the ages of 25 and 45, with gunshot wounds to the chest, abdomen, and back.
The shooting took place as Seattle Mayor Ed Murray was giving a televised speech on what he was doing about the city's growing homeless problem.
