30-car pileup on I-70 in Indiana

Several other accidents were reported on I-70 in Indiana, and on I-65 and I-74.

RICHMOND, Ind., Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Snow and wind caused a 30-vehicle pileup on Interstate 70 near Richmond, Ind., Tuesday morning.

The road was closed at the 147-mile marker by the Indiana State police, who reported the accident involved injuries and would likely take hours to resolve. Cars and trailer trucks were part of the accident.

The accident in the east-central part of the state was one of several in Indiana caused by the bad weather Tuesday. Another westbound section of I-70, in central Indiana, was closed after a trailer truck struck an overpass; another truck jackknifed south of Indianapolis, closing the southbound lanes of I-65 at the State Road 44 exit, and in Dearborn County at the Ohio-Indiana border, state police reported a multiple-vehicle accident on I-74 which could close the road for hours.
