LAKE MARY, Fla., May 11 (UPI) -- George Zimmerman, the Florida man acquitted in the 2013 shooting death of teen Trayvon Martin, was injured Monday in a shooting incident, police said.

Lake Mary, Fla., Police Chief Steve Bracknell told WESH-TV in Orlando that Zimmerman sustained a minor gunshot injury during a confrontation with another driver on Lake Mary Boulevard.

WJAX-TV in Jacksonville, Fla., reported he was shot in the face.

"He walked normally into the ambulance, so he wasn't being helped or nothing," witness Ricardo Berrare told WESH.

Zimmerman, who did not return fire in the incident, has been released from the hospital.

There appeared to be a bullet hole in the passenger window of the vehicle Zimmerman was in.

In 2013, a jury found Zimmerman not guilty in the shooting death of unarmed 17-year-old Martin.
