WASHINGTON, April 6 (UPI) -- A new Quinnipiac poll has found support for legalizing marijuana is higher than support for any of the likely presidential candidates in some important election states.

About 84 percent of Florida and Ohio residents support legalizing medical marijuana, and roughly 88 percent of Pennsylvania residents support medical marijuana, the poll found. Recreational marijuana received support from over 50 percent of those polled in each state.

In contrast, Hillary Clinton has the most support of any candidate in each state, and her poll numbers are around 50 percent. Candidates like Jeb Bush only receive roughly one-third of the support medical marijuana has in Pennsylvania. Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz receive about half as much support as recreational marijuana in Ohio.

A Gallup poll from November found the majority of Americans support the legalization of recreational marijuana use.
