PENNSBURG, Pa., Dec. 16 (UPI) -- Bradley Stone, suspected of killing his ex-wife and five relatives, was found dead Tuesday near his home in a Philadelphia suburb, officials said.
Montgomery County District Attorney Rita Ferman confirmed Tuesday afternoon that the body discovered in a wooded area about 200 yards from the house in Pennsburg, Pa., had been identified as Stone. The ex-Marine was dressed in camouflage clothing.
Investigators said the cause of death appeared to be suicide.
The killings Monday set off an intense manhunt in Pennsburg and the surrounding area. Stone allegedly shot his ex-wife, Nicole, and six members of her family, including one who survived.
Some schools in the area were closed Tuesday.
At a news conference before the body was found, Montgomery County District Attorrney Rita Ferman showed a recent photograph of Stone taken from his cell phone. She said police were using "every possible law enforcement tool."
"Don't try to stop him," Ferman said. "I don't want our community to be alarmed but ... in a situation like this where someone is on the run, there could certainly be a risk to others."
Stone served in the U.S. Marine Reserves and did a tour in Iraq.
Stone allegedly went on a killing spree in three towns, killing his ex-wife's sister, husband and daughter and her mother and grandmother. A nephew survived and was reported to be in serious condition Tuesday.
Police said that after killing his ex-wife he took his two daughters from her apartment, eventually leaving them with a neighbor in Pennsburg. The girls were unharmed, police said.
