NEW YORK, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- The FDNY rescued two window washers who became trapped outside the 60th floor of the recently opened One World Trade Center Wednesday.

The rescue teams responded shortly before 1 p.m. after the platform malfunctioned and began dangling from the skyscraper.

The window washers were strapped in harnesses with two tethers which would have prevented them from falling and both are uninjured.

Firefighters were able to cut through the glass at 2:17 p.m. to get the workers through a hole on the side of the building, reports CNN. The glass was difficult to cut through as new building regulations required very thick glass as part of the construction of the new tower.

Another scaffolding was lowered to make sure the workers were able to be rescued.
