WASHINGTON, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- A total of 181 guns were confiscated from airports around the United States in October, according to the Transportation and Security Administration

Among the confiscated firearms seized between Oct. 3 and Oct. 30, 157 were loaded, nearly a third with live rounds in the chamber.

"Unfortunately these sorts of occurrences are all too frequent which is why we talk about these finds," the TSA wrote on its official blog.

"Sure, it's great to share the things that our officers are finding, but at the same time, each time we find a dangerous item, the line is slowed down and a passenger that likely had no ill intent ends up with a citation or in some cases is even arrested."

In addition to the real firearms, the TSA says the frequency with which it discovers replicas and toys is another frequent obstacle in moving passengers through security in a timely manner. Gag grenades, inactive artifacts and disassembled weaponry are also confiscated on a "weekly basis."

Passengers attempting to travel with prohibited carry-on items face up $7,500 in fines.

In 2013, the TSA confiscated over 1,800 firearms, reports Fox News.
