COQUILLE, Ore., Aug. 19 (UPI) -- A man on a business trip to Oregon was killed in an apparent drive-by shooting at a beach and the alleged killer then shot himself, police said Tuesday.

Police found the body of David Jesse Hortman, 43, of Michigan in a vehicle parked at Bastendorff Beach in Coos County at about 1 a.m. Several other vehicles had bullet holes in them.

Zachary Levi Brimhall, 34, of Dillard, Ore., was found in another vehicle. He was believed to have shot himself, and police also found bomb-making materials with his body.

Police were searching for Brimhall's father, Ray, 58. His empty vehicle was found in Coos County.

A Coos County investigator said Zachary may have "caused harm" to his father.

Hortman, a representative for a recreation vehicle supply company, was in Oregon for a trade show and decided to stay on for a visit to the coast, investigators said. He was apparently sleeping when he was shot.

The bomb squad was sent to examine both Zachary's vehicle and his father's.

Coos County District Attorney Paul Frasier said that Zachary Brimhall appeared to have driven along Bastendorff Beach shooting at vehicles from his own. Police found several guns and ammunition.
