BOSTON, June 26 (UPI) -- Nearly 40 people were hospitalized Wednesday night and dozens more treated on site, in what police are describing as a vice-fueled "mass casualty incident" at an electronic concert in Boston.
Dehydration, alcohol poisoning, and suspected and confirmed drug overdoses abounded in Boston's TD Garden during Wednesday's DJ Avicii concert.
"Fortunately no one was seriously injured," Boston EMS Deputy Superintendent Mike Bosse told the Boston Herald.
"Mostly underaged kids involved in alcohol and or some illicit drugs. This is a mass casualty incident that greatly impacts our resources, Boston police resources as well as area hospitals."
Thirty-six people were taken to the hospital and an additional 50 had to be treated at the TD Garden.
"When you have this type of a concert, this techno-rave type thing, we kind of know it may be coming," Bosse said.
Officials from the TD Garden said in a statement they are taking Wednesday's events "very seriously."
"We implemented increased precautions such as restricted alcohol sales, additional security and provided two cooling off areas for guests, in addition to the building maintained at normal temperature."
Avicii, a Swedish DJ whose real name is Tim Bergling, said via Twitter his thoughts and prayers are with those who suffered injury.
