Bergdahl family threatened

HAILEY, Idaho, June 7 (UPI) -- The parents of U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl said they have received threats since their son was released from captivity in Afghanistan.

The decision to release five Taliban prisoners from Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba in exchange for Bergdahl's freedom has been met with some criticism by opponents.

Some call Bergdahl a deserter, others question why five Taliban prisoners were released for one U.S. soldier and still others disagree with U.S. President Obama negotiating with terrorists without the approval from Congress.

The backlash has resulted in threats against Bergdahl's parents, who live in Hailey, Idaho.

"We are working jointly with our state and local partners and taking each threat seriously," FBI Special Agent William Facer told CNN of the threats the soldier's parents have received.

The specific nature of the threats weren't released.
