Kentucky Democrat calls Obama's new carbon regulations 'dumb-ass policy'

FRANKFORT, Ky., June 5 (UPI) -- Kentucky Speaker of the House Greg Stumbo denounced the White House's proposed limits on carbon emissions, calling it "a dumb-ass" policy.

"Coal is our most abundant resource in this country," Stumbo said Wednesday. "You can't formulate an energy policy for a growing country like ours if you are not going to consider as part of that solution your most abundant resource."

"The problem's a global problem, why solve it on the backs of American citizens? I'm not for having Kentucky residents and American citizens pay more for energy, more for electricity, drive more manufacturing jobs out of our country, because of a dumb-ass policy."

Both Ky. Senator Mitch McConnell and his opponent in this year's election Alison Lundergan Grimes have condemned the new regulations as damaging to their state.

"It's clear you have no idea how this affects Kentucky," Grimes publicly chided the president.

Not to be outdone, McConnell took aim at Grimes herself.

"It is a fact that Alison Lundergan Grimes lined up as a delegate behind Barack Obama after he announced he would wage a war on coal and said nothing as thousands of Kentuckians lost their jobs," said McConnell spokeswoman Allison Moore. "Her belated concern about the war on coal now that she's a candidate, after helping to ensure it by backing Obama, is insulting and transparently political."
