WASHINGTON, May 29 (UPI) -- U.S. President Barack Obama and likely candidate for his office in 2016 Hillary Clinton had an unscheduled meeting at the White House Thursday.

"The President enjoyed an informal, private lunch with Secretary Clinton at the White House this afternoon," a White House official confirmed. Questions arose after People Magazine tweeted a photo of one of its writers posing with Clinton followed by a caption that implied she might be delaying a meeting with the President.

Obama's public schedule had no mention of the meeting, prompting one member of the press corps to formally complain to Press Secretary Jay Carney about "lack of transparency" according to CNN.

Obama and Clinton have only met in the White House once since she left his administration, but have attended a number of public events together.
