Mass shooting at Georgia FedEx facility sends at least six people to the hospital

The six injured people were taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital and at least one of them is undergoing surgery.

KENNESAW, Ga., April 29 (UPI) -- According to reports, law enforcement officials are on the lookout for a lone gunman who opened fire at a FedEx facility in Georgia on Tuesday morning and wounded at least six people.

The gunman opened fire at a facility in Kennesaw at 1675 Airport Road and officials received a call about the gunfire at 5:54 a.m.

Wellstar Kennestone Hospital has confirmed that at least six shooting victims are being treated and that at least one person is undergoing surgery.

"We have multiple victims at this time that have been transported to a local area hospital," Public Information Officer Mike Bowman said in a statement. "We have multiple agencies assisting us with this incident. The area around the building has been secured and the officers are now clearing the incident location. This is still an active and fluid situation."

FedEx has confirmed it has been alerted about the incident.

"FedEx is aware of the situation. Our primary concern is the safety and well being of our team members, first responders and others affected,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “FedEx is cooperating with authorities."

UPDATE: The gunman, who may have been a package/baggage handler at the facility, is reportedly dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
