Nader suggests a billionaire's run for presidency

WASHINGTON, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Former presidential candidate Ralph Nader said the super-wealthy should run for president as the only ones capable of breaking through the two-party logjam.

He suggested Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates and 18 other billionaires as 2016 third-party candidates in a blog posted Monday, the Washington newspaper the Hill reported.

Nader noted the high cost of running in every state, the polling threshold to enter televised debates and the lack of attention paid to third-party candidates by the media and polling firms. He added a billionaire's run, on a third-party ticket, could reshape the political agendas of the Democratic and Republican Parties.

"Modestly enlightened rich people can persuade the mass media and other definers of the public's attention that they have resources to overcome, at least initially, many of these obstacles," he wrote.
