ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- A flight from Tokyo to New York City was rerouted to Anchorage, Alaska, after a passenger became unruly, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said.
Police officers and federal agents arrested Nobuya Michael Ochinero, 38, at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport early Monday.
Ochinero seemed volatile as soon as he boarded the All Nippon Airways flight, a passenger on the plane said.
"He was berserk from the moment he got on the plane. He was yelling and screaming, spitting on the floor. He was smacking the back of my seat and other passengers' seats," passenger Chuck Lustig said.
He then harassed flight attendants and yelled.
Crew members detained the man with zip-tie handcuffs and decided to divert the flight because of a passenger who posed a security concern, the Anchorage Daily News reported.
A spokesman for All Nippon Airways said the company is still gathering information about the incident.
The flight made its way to New York after a few hours on the ground in Alaska.
Federal charges have not been filed against Ochinero, who was being held at the Anchorage Correctional Complex, the Daily News said.
