Woman mauled to death by dogs was animal lover

DAYTON, Ohio, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- Two people have been charged in the death of an Ohio woman who was likely mauled to death by two dogs, officials said.

The body of Klonda Richey, 57, was found naked on the sidewalk in front of her home in Dayton, Ohio, on Friday, the Dayton Daily News reported.

When police arrived, they had to put down two dogs that charged at them.

An autopsy was performed on Richey's body on Saturday, but the Montgomery County Coroner's Office has not yet released the preliminary cause of her death. The autopsy results will be released Monday, the coroner's office said.

Police arrested Andrew Nason and Julie Custer, Richey's next-door neighbors, Friday. They are being held on a charge of reckless homicide, pending the filing of formal charges, the Daily News said..

Richey's friends said her death is ironic, because she was an animal lover, having about 20 cats.

"It's so ironic that this devout animal lover would be killed by animals in such a brutal aggressive way," said Ann Stevens, who worked with Richey for 16 years at the Montgomery County Job & Family Services Administration Services Division. "Every conversation I had with Klonda included cats -- she was very passionate about animals and their well being and because of that she always had a special place in my heart."
