4 FSU frat members arrested for alleged hazing

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Four Florida State University students have been charged with misdemeanors for allegedly participating in hazing at several fraternity rituals, officials said.

A campus police investigation into the Florida State chapter of Sigma Chi began in October after a woman filed a complaint with Robyn Brock, the director of Greek life at FSU, expressing concern about a student rushing at the fraternity, the Tallahassee Democrat reported Friday.

The complaint said the student was forced to drink vodka and spend so much time at the fraternity he was having trouble finding time to study.

Investigators found evidence of hazing allegedly taking place at parties, tailgating and fraternity meetings, and arrested Michael Salem, 21, Charles Kalb, 19, Alex Lavene, 21, and Tyler Linabury, 21.

Police said the four fraternity brothers were arrested because they failed to stop the hazing.

"The defendants' unwillingness to intervene in the high-risk behavior during this pledge process jeopardized the health and safety of the pledges of the Sigma Chi fraternity," the arrest report stated.
