Law firm Patton Boggs to defend Christie for Governor group in probe

TRENTON, N.J., Jan. 23 (UPI) -- The law firm Patton Boggs has been hired by the Christie for Governor campaign, subpoenaed in an investigation into New Jersey's bridge scandal.

The international law firm will represent the Christie for Governor re-election campaign, the (Newark, N.J.) Star-Ledger reported Thursday.

The campaign received a subpoena last week from the state Assembly committee investigating alleged political retribution as the reason for lane closures at the George Washington Bridge linking Fort Lee, N.J., and New York City, beginning in September. The traffic diversion snarled traffic and caused delays in the small town.

The Patton Boggs attorneys representing the campaign are Bob Luskin and Mark Sheridan, the newspaper said.

Luskin defended Republican operative Karl Rove in the leak of the identity of a CIA official, and professional cyclist Lance Armstrong in his blood doping defense. Luskin supervised the ABSCAM investigation while working at the U.S. Department of Justice.

Sheridan is the New Jersey Republican State Committee's general counsel, and served on Christie's transition team when he was first elected as governor in 2010.
