BUFFALO, N.Y., Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Business mogul and Republican gadfly Donald Trump said he could top New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's political war chest if he chooses to challenge the incumbent.

While announcing a Jan. 31 trip to Buffalo, N.Y. -- his first upstate exploration of a possible run against Cuomo -- Trump said he could more than match the $33 million the governor's campaign reported it has in the bank this week, the Buffalo News said Thursday.

"I can put up $200 million if I want," Trump told the News.

He characterized Cuomo's trips to western New York and state money for economic development as efforts to "buy" votes in a region the governor lost in 2010.

"If I ran, it's a race that absolutely could be won," Trump said.

Many New York Republican and Democratics political observers still question whether Trump will enter the race but don't discount his planned trip, the News said.

"Something is happening for Donald Trump to come to Buffalo," said former Republican Rep. Thomas M. Reynolds. "That tells me there is some sort of interest here in 2014. You can't argue with the fact that there is at least January interest about what will happen in November."
