Man gets 25 years for videotaping mom's piano students

ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 15 (UPI) -- A Florida man has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison and lifetime probation for secretly videotaping his mother's piano students.

Daniel Heffield, 31, who lived in the Orlando area with his parents, apologized at Tuesday's sentencing.

"What I did was wrong," he said.

Heffield became a target of investigation in 2012 after federal agents found a video on a computer in Camden, Maine, showing a young girl in a bathroom. Because the girl was wearing a shirt with the logo of a private school in Orlando, investigators were able to identify her and discovered where the video had been made.

Agents said Heffield told investigators he began looking at child pornography when he was 16.

Heffield pleaded guilty in August.

The mother of one of Heffield's victims described him in a statement at Tuesday's hearing as a "menace to society."
