DALLAS, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- A winter storm watch has been issued for the Dallas-Fort Worth area and an ice storm could hit counties to the north and west, forecasters said.
In the metro area, weather watchers said Monday morning's commute could prove tricky as overnight temperatures are expected to dip below freezing with precipitation in the forecast. That could lead to sleet or freezing rain, the latter of which would make driving conditions hazardous, The Dallas Morning News reported Saturday.
"It looks more like a sleet event than a freezing rain event," said Amanda Schroeder, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.
State transportation workers said 30 sanding trucks are ready and drivers have been notified they may be called in for 12-hour shifts.
The National Weather Service said the less populated areas north and west of the city are likely to be hardest hit. Cooke, Eastland, Jack, Palo Pinto, Stephens and Young counties -- the areas north of Interstate 30 and west of Interstate 35W -- could get significant ice in a storm, enough that power outages are likely.
