Chicago-Detroit train stalled for six hours with equipment problem

CHICAGO, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- An Amtrak train bound for Detroit was stopped for six hours after it left Chicago because of an equipment problem, a railroad spokesman said.

The train, carrying 254 passengers, left Chicago Sunday evening at 6:35 p.m. and traveled several miles before a "flat spot" on a wheel of a car was noted, Amtrak spokesman Steve Kulm said.

The train returned to Chicago, where the car with the faulty wheel was removed, WGN-TV, Chicago, reported Monday.

Passengers were given free food and water, Kulm said, and the train, which was scheduled to leave at 6 p.m. Sunday, finally departed for Detroit at 1:30 a.m.
