CLEVELAND, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- The trial of accused veterans charity swindler Bobby Thompson was on hold in Cleveland while his attorney's wife gives birth.
Thompson had been expected to testify in his own defense Wednesday, but Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Steven Gall called a recess until Nov. 12 when defense attorney Joseph Patituce's wife went into labor Tuesday, The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reported.
Thompson attracted some additional attention himself Tuesday when he began banging his head against the wall of a holding cell adjacent to the courtroom during a recess.
The Plain Dealer said Thompson was not seriously injured.
The newspaper said there has been speculation he may revert to defending himself as he had prior to the start of his trial early last month.
Thompson is accused of using a stolen identity to swindle people who donated to his U.S. Navy Veterans Association out of more than $100 million nationwide from 2002 to 2010.
