YouTube Music Awards seen by about 200,000 viewers

NEW YORK, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- About 200,000 viewers tuned in for Sunday's inaugural YouTube Music Awards ceremony, which took place in New York and aired on the video-sharing website.

Filmmaker Spike Jonze served as the 90-minute webcast's creative director, while actor Jason Schwartzman and comedian Reggie Watts shared emcee duties for the program, the Los Angeles Times said.

Recognizing favorite online clips from professional artists, as well as Internet amateurs, the program was broadcast from Pier 36 in downtown Manhattan and featured performances by Eminem, M.I.A., DJ Avicii and Lady Gaga.

Eminem was declared the artist of the year at the event, while Girls' Generation won the award for video of the year for "I Got a Boy" and Taylor Swift won the YouTube phenomenon prize for "I Knew You Were Trouble," the Times said.
