Police said the couple forced the girl to bark when they wanted to punish her, thereby activating the shock collar, The Danbury News Times reported Wednesday.

Eduardo Montanez was charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor, third-degree assault and cruelty to persons. Paula Montanez was charged with two counts each of risk of injury and conspiracy. They are being held on $250,000 and $200,000 bond, respectively.

Police did not say how or whether the girl was related to the couple, the newspaper said.
