Texas law enforcement officer dies in shooting

MCCAMEY, Texas, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- A police officer was shot and killed during an incident in a McCamey, Texas, convenience store, the Upton County, Texas, Sheriff's Department reported.

County Deputy Billy "Bubba" Kennedy, 38, a 14-year law enforcement veteran, was shot and killed Wednesday night after he "encountered a male subject and multiple shots were fired," at McCamey's Stripes Convenience Store, the sheriff's department statement said.

The unidentified suspect is in custody and under medical care for gunshot wounds, the Odessa American reported Thursday, adding Kennedy died at the scene of the shooting, where eight to 11 shots were fired.
