AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Thirteen Texas State University marching band members have been charged with hazing, a misdemeanor, school officials said.
The charges came after a two-week investigation by police and university officials after the upperclassmen took an undetermined number of freshmen band members to an off-campus apartment, blindfolded them and forced them to drink large amounts of alcohol, the Austin American-Statesman said Monday.
Some of the victims became ill.
Police became aware of the incident after spotting some of the intoxicated freshmen in a car near campus.
Thirteen students were charged with misdemeanor hazing, two face charges of purchasing and furnishing alcohol to a minor, and one was charged with providing a false report to a peace officer, school officials said. All suspects have been suspended from the band.
