Man accused of killing another man over Facebook comment

OKLAHOMA CITY, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- An Oklahoma City man was killed after commenting about another man's girlfriend on Facebook, police say.

Edmond James Tyree, 48, was fatally shot in his apartment on July 12 -- five days after he commented "damm" on a female friend's Facebook photo, The Oklahoman reported. Tyree's visiting friend, Michael Joe Hale, was shot and wounded in the incident.

Later in July, police arrested Antwion Courtez Martin, 20, for Tyree's death. Martin was charged with first-degree murder and shooting with intent to kill.

Investigators working the case say they believe there is a close connection to Tyree's comment on Facebook and his killing, as it was Martin's girlfriend in the photo.

"During an interview ... Martin acknowledged having words with the deceased victim about his comments made about the bathing suit photo," Oklahoma City police detective Ryan Porter wrote in a court affidavit.

Hale later told The Oklahoman that while he was in the hospital, he looked at Tyree's Facebook page and saw that the woman whose photo Tyree commented on was one of his only friends online.

"He had mentioned to me a couple of weeks prior that they had been together. They both agreed it was a mistake ... but everything's cool. They were still friends and left it at that. That's what he told me," Hale said.

Hale then looked at the woman's profile and saw a picture of Martin, whom he identified as the shooter, the report said.

Martin has not commented on the case.
