MARIETTA, Ga., Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Sherry West defended her recollection of her 13-month-old son's fatal shooting at the Marietta, Ga., trial of De'Marquise Elkins Wednesday.
Elkins allegedly shot her and her child, Antonio Santiago, who was seated in a stroller, during a robbery attempt in March in Brunswick.
Defense attorney Kevin Gough questioned West about why she had trouble identifying Elkins, 18, in a photo lineup shortly after the shooting.
"I believed it was him. I just remember being sure it was him," she replied.
She also explained pleading with the assailant not to shoot her baby, HLNTV reported.
Gough's cross-examination Tuesday ended abruptly when he asked West if she starved her other child, who was stabbed to death in 2008 at age 18, HLNTV said. The prosecution objected to the question and the jury was sent out of the courtroom as attorneys argued over the line of questioning. The judge ruled the question should be disregarded.
