Officials looking for time capsule at Sandy Hook Elementary school

NEWTOWN, Conn., Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Officials at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., say they're searching for a time capsule that was buried on school property in 1980.

First Selectman Pat Llodra and school officials say they want to find the time capsule before the school is demolished later this year, the Connecticut Post reported Sunday.

The school was slated for destruction after the Dec. 14, 2012, shootings that killed 20 children and six educators.

Llodra said the capsule holds original artwork, pictures and other school mementos and was buried somewhere on the school grounds.

The capsule will either be reburied or opened to see what was going on at the school more than three decades ago.

"It would be interesting to see what's in that time capsule -- 11-year-olds writing about the future, things that they wanted people to know about their school and neighborhood," Llodra said.

Anyone with information should call Llodra's office at 203-270-4701.
